How much money can I get?

The amount of money you can get varies greatly depending on your purpose and which grant programs you are applying for. Grants can range from $1,000 to $250,000 and even more. Larger amounts are typically awarded to businesses, but there are literally many thousands of programs available with money to offer. They are required to give this money away or lose it to other government programs, so typically they are eager to find qualified applicants.

When I get a grant, can I apply for others?

Yes! In fact we recommend that you apply for more than one grant at a time. Receiving funding from one grant opportunity does not preclude you from receiving additional funding. Would it be such a bad thing to get more money than you immediately need?

How will I receive the money?

If your grant application is accepted, you will typically receive a notice via mail which will include the amount of your award and when it is to be received. Payment is typically provided via check unless other arrangements are available to the specific grant program.

Do I have to pay the grant money back?

No! A grant is not a loan. Grant money is provided for specific purposes, and when a matching application is selected, the money is provided with no requirement to pay back the funds.

If I am a minority, are there specific grants for me?

There are often grants provided specifically for certain minority groups. You can apply for all general grants, but there may also be grants for your particular ethnic or gender that you can take advantage of. With these type of grants you may have an even better chance of receiving funding for your purpose.

I already have a business, did I miss my chance for funding?

Absolutely not! Though there are grant opportunities designed for new busiensses, there are many that are designed to help growing and expanding businesses as well. It also does not matter if your business is scraping by or doing well financially - you can apply for all grants you are eligibile for - and your financial status doesn't disqualify you. Keep in mind, these grants exist because you pay taxes, so you deserve to have this money work for you!

Do I have to be a non-profit to be eligible for a grant?

There are grants for every type of individual or organization. Though some grants are targetted for non-profits, many (in fact most) are not.
